Strength 2 Thrive Suicide Prevention Walk

Community Event, Benefit/Fundraiser, Walking, Health & Wellness/Nutrition, For the Family, Line Dancing

NAMPA, Idaho—The inaugural ?Strength 2 Thrive? event seeks to bring people in the Treasure Valley together to raise awareness about suicide, encourage those struggling with suicidal thoughts, and provide access to a caring community. ?Strength 2 Thrive ?will feature a walk-a-thon, speakers and testimonials, free concerts by local bands and musicians, and food. The overnight event will be held at Columbia High School in Nampa on September 14th, 2019 from 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. The event is open to the public and participation in the overnight walk-a-thon is free. Walk-a-thon participants are encouraged to enter as teams of five and are challenged to raise $5,000 per team to donate to local and national suicide prevention organizations. The goal of the event is to have at least 40 teams of four people participate in the walk-a-thon. Chad Hanson, the event organizer and owner of Rhythm and Grace Counseling in Nampa, hopes to raise a total of $200,000 for suicide prevention through this event. “Suicide impacts everyone,” said Hanson. “I want people to walk away from this knowing that they have value and to not give up because they do not know the hope tomorrow can bring.” The event will feature an overnight walk-a-thon in which teams of participants will walk the Columbia High School track throughout the night to raise awareness about suicide and show solidarity to those affected. “Suicide rates increase dramatically during the night,” said Hanson. “We will be walking throughout the night to show them that they are not alone.” Local musicians Kyler Daron, Sons of Country, and other artists will perform at the event. Counseling professionals, speakers, and others will also share. There are 129 suicides every day in the United States, with a suicide occuring every 12 minutes—and suicide rates increase at night, hence why we are walking at night. Please donate or join/create a team. Lets make change happen.
